Hvorfor vil ikke klima-apokalyptikere høre tungtveiende innvendinger?

Flere ganger i måneden kommer det nye populærvitenskapelige bøker som avviser klima- eller miljøkrisen. De er forfattet av naturvitere med svært tung faglig kompetanse, samt av frafalne miljøvernere. Senest ute er den danske professoren i geologi/naturgeografi Johannes Krüger, som i mai 2021 har gitt ut boken 32 myter om klimaet du ikke skal hoppe på – læs hvorfor, hvis du tør.
Alle disse publikasjonene blir møtt med taushet. Mediene omtaler dem ikke, og anmelder dem ikke. De inngår aldri i den offentlige samtalen. I den grad deres poenger når offentligheten, blir de møtt med den holdningen at sannheten er beskrevet én gang for alle. Autoriteten er FNs klimapanel. Mener man noe annet enn det som framkommer i IPCCs Summary for policymakers, som forøvrig i vesentlig grad er forfattet av politikere og byråkrater, tar man kort og godt feil. Det er en grunn til det, som jeg kommer tilbake til mot slutten av denne artikkelen.
Tausheten fortoner seg underlig, for motstanden mot IPCC omfatter forskere med ekstremt tung faglig bakgrunn. Blant dem er professor Ivar Giæver, den eneste nordmann som noensinne har mottatt nobelprisen i fysikk. Den inkluderer fysikeren Freeman Dyson, som overtok fysikk-professoratet etter Albert Einstein. Fysikeren Richard Lindzen har vært professor i meteorologi ved Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Han er kjent for sine arbeider om dynamikken i den midlere atmosfære, atmosfæriske tidevannsbølger og ozon-fotokjemi. Han har publisert mer enn 200 bøker og vitenskapelige artikler. Fordi han ikke har den rette apokalyptiske klimafrykten, ignoreres han i klimadebatten. Og i politikken. Eller den omfatter biologen dr. Patrick Moore, som var en av grunnleggerne av miljøorganisasjonen Greenpeace. Hans siste bok heter Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom. Har Aftenposten og Ole Mathismoen referert til den?
Miljøverneren Michael Schellenberger ga sommeren 2020 ut boka Apocalypse never. Why environmental alarm hurts us all. I en artikkel i en australsk avis skrev han: På vegne av miljøvernere over alt vil jeg formelt be om unnskyldning for den miljøfrykten vi har skapt gjennom de siste 30 årene. Steven Koonin, som var «chief scientist» i Energidepartementet under president Barack Obama, publiserte i mai 2021 boken Unsettled – what climate science tells us, what it doesn´t, and why it matters. Den problematiserer særlig modellene, som hele klimadebatten hviler på. Dette er Koonins spesialfelt, så han vet hva han skriver om. Med blant de utallige andre prominente og fremragende kritikerne av IPCC er også fysikeren William Happer, tidligere professor ved Princeton University.
Er det virkelig slik, at hverken Krüger, Giæver, Dyson, Lindzen, Moore, Koonin eller Happer har noe å fare med? Hvordan har vi endt opp der at norske medier og politikere velger å lukke øyne og ører for de tunge faglige stemmene disse representerer, og i stedet lar vår norske klimadebatt – unnskyld uærbødigheten – være preget av akademiske ubetydeligheter som Ciceros Bjørn Samset?
Brevet til statsminister Erna Solberg
Den 2. april 2019 sendte Klimarealistene et brev til statsminister Erna Solberg, med tittelen Klimasaken har to sider. Gjennom 10 sider gikk 19 fagpersoner i vårt vitenskapelige råd gjennom sentrale elementer i klimadebatten og klimaforskningen. Det tok for seg den såkalte konsensus i klimasaken, hvordan IPCC arbeider, manglende hot-spot i atmosfæren, usikkerhet i klimamodellene, manipulering av temperaturdata, den varme sommeren i Norge 2018, betydningen av vanndamp, koblingen mellom CO2 og temperatur, effekten av reduserte karbondioksidutslipp, havisen i Arktis, framtidens klima samt ekstremvær. Vi ba om en konsekvensutredning knyttet til det grønne skiftet, med et bredt sammensatt utvalg. Og vi stilte oss til disposisjon for utdypende foredrag.
Statsministeren sendte saken over til Kunnskapsministeren, som svarte slik det offentlige Norge alltid gjør: Når det gjelder klimaspørsmålet, forholder myndighetene seg til autoriteten på området: IPCC. Ikke noe mer. De hadde ikke en eneste faglig kommentar eller innvending. Og ønsket tydeligvis absolutt ikke å møte oss. Politikere skal på ingen måte få høre det andre synet i klimaspørsmålet. Derfor har de fleste av dem så og si fraværende kunnskaper innen feltet. Vi hører det når Tina Bru uttaler at CO2 er en slags søppel, eller Lene Westgaard-Halle gir uttrykk for at planter kan drukne i CO2.
Nå skal vi kartlegges – og det er en grunn til det
Den manglende viljen til å lytte til vitenskapelig opposisjon, og dermed se bort fra at alle saker har minst to sider, har en rekke årsaker. Klimasaken og klimapolitikken gir en rekke vinnere, og gir store økonomiske gevinster. Forestillingen om en kommende undergang gir arbeidsoppgaver og lønninger til en enorm forskningssektor. Det finnes globalt titusenvis av forskere, utredere og byråkrater som lever av påstanden om en klimaundergang. Det er en megaindustri. De fleste naturvitere er fullt klar over at forestillingen om en brennende klode er gal, men holder klokelig munn. De få som sier fra, slik som maringeologen professor Peter Ridd ved James Cook University i Australia, mister sin stilling.
For miljø- og bistandssektoren representerer klimamyten også en enorm økonomisk mulighet, og potensiale for medlemmer. Forestillingen om verdens undergang sender lettskremte ungdom i armene på miljøorganisasjonene, og når vesentlige deler av hjelpen nå skal gis som klimabistand (som ikke et eneste fattig land trenger), strømmer det klimapenger inn i kassa til både WWF og Regnskogsfondet. For pressen representerer dårlige nyheter alltid gode inntekter, og «klimakrisen» gir anledning til å tegne med virkelig bred pensel. Det har de da også gjort i minst førti år, uten å være i nærheten av beskrive den virkelige verden.
Og for næringslivet, industrien og finanssektoren? Lenge var de tilbakeholdne i klimaspørsmålet og klimapolitikken. Det er slutt. Nå er de kanskje den fremste eksponenten for et grønt skifte. Hvis du lurer på hvorfor, kan det kort oppsummeres på følgende vis: Det er nå mer enn 75 år siden siste krig i Europa og USA. Gjennom disse tiårene har industrien produsert bedre og bedre varer. Bilene kan gå i 400 000 km, og varer i minst 20 år. Kanskje 30. Flyene kan holde det gående uendelig lenge. Vaskemaskiner og komfyrer går aldri i stykker. Traktorer og motorsager varer lenge, med litt service. Hvordan skal da industrien få solgt oss noe som helst, særlig av det som lenge har vært på markedet? Hvordan skal de tjene penger, når alt de produserer varer så alt for lenge?
Du har antakeligvis skjønt det. Det finnes altså en annen grunn enn miljø som gjør at industri, næringsliv og finanssektor vil ha et grønt skifte. De vil lage alt på nytt, og tjene store penger. De vil starte med blanke ark og fargestifter. Og det er nettopp det vi nå står ovenfor. Vår avhengighet av fossil energi skal byttes ut med avhengighet av mineraler, og alt skal elektrifiseres. Bensin- og dieselbiler skal bort. Inn kommer elbilene. Bil- og traktorfabrikkene kan starte fra scratch. Flyfabrikkene det samme. Båtverftene likedan.
Gruvesektoren i sin jakt på mineraler ser for seg å lage kloden om til en sveitserost. De går inn i en gullalder, hvor råvareprisene kommer til å gå til himmels. Kobberprisene har doblet seg de siste 12 måneder, og Chile og Bolivia jubler. Og i tillegg skal industrien fange CO2, i Brevik og andre steder. Det er milliardprosjekter, attpåtil med statlige midler som fratar industrien all finansiell risiko. Bygging av vindturbiner og solcellepaneler det samme, også subsidiert. Begge disse går fort i stykker, og må produseres på nytt.
Oppå dette kommer vannkraftprodusentene, som kan selge strøm med opprinnelsesgaranti til dobbel pris, og vet at inntredenen av grønn energi innebærer at vannkraften deres skal selges i et internasjonalt marked, hvor prisene går til himmels. Det har vi lenge sett i både Tyskland og England, og det samme vil skje hos oss.
Det er altså en grunn til at miljø- og bistandsorganisasjoner, mediene, FoU-sektoren og næringslivet har slått seg sammen til et megakompleks: bekymringsindustrien. For alle disse representerer klimarealister, som de helst kaller fornektere, en eksistensiell trussel. Det er ikke klimaendringene som representerer faren for kloden, det er kunnskapene og analysene som kan drepe selve gullkalven. Ingen skal kunne angripe grunnlaget for det grønne skiftet. Det er dette de skal leve av i årene framover.
Derfor har de funnet på et argument de mener er uslåelig og uangripelig: konsensus. Dessuten er det så enkelt at en hvilken som helst politiker kan delta i klimadebatten. Det hevdes at 97 prosent av forskerne skal være enige om at verden står ovenfor en klimakrise. Av den grunn er det nødvendig å kartlegge enhver dissident. Og det er nettopp dette Bellona nå har fått penger fra Sparebankstiftelsen til å gjøre: Registrer avvikerne, følg med dem. Selv står jeg høyt oppe på lista til miljøorganisasjonen, både som styreleder av Klimarealistene, og med denne bloggen.
Konsensus om klimakrisen er det rene sludder. Ikke står vi ovenfor noen krise, og det finnes uendelig med faglig tung opposisjon mot dommedagsreligionen – slik bøkene jeg nevner i starten av denne artikkelen viser. Og religion? Ja, det er bare religioner som hevder å kunne gi de evige sannheter, samt ha alle gudene med på laget.
