– Det året frøs Oslofjorden helt ut forbi Færder fyr. Jeg husker godt den vinteren, det var helt eksepsjonelt kaldt. Det vi har opplevd så langt i år er bare peanuts i forhold, ler han.

Helt naturlig
1966 var nesten én grad kaldere enn den nest kaldeste vinteren som var i 1979. Mange har prøvd å finne en forklaring på hvorfor det ble så kaldt i 66.
– Det har vært diskutert mye rundt dette, og man har prøvd å knytte det til værfenomenet El Niño, men uten hell. Slike ting skjer av og til, og i et normalt klima skal man også ha ekstremvær. Det er helt naturlig, mener Kristiansen.

Nyttårsfeiring i minus 50
1979 er den nest kaldeste vinteren siden 1900, med en gjennomsnittstemperatur på 10,4 kalde minusgrader.
– Det året er det nok mange som husker, for da var det fryktelig kaldt på nyttårsaften 1978/1979. Vi har en uoffisiell måling fra Sel i Gudbrandsdalen den dagen på minus 50,1 grader, forteller førstekonsulenten.

De første vintrene under 2. verdenskrig husker mange som svært kalde. 1942 går inn i historien som den fjerde kaldeste vinteren siden 1900, kun slått av vinteren 1986 som var 0,1 grad kaldere.

Og hva med 2010?
Den femte kaldeste vinteren de siste 110 årene er i 1970. Da var temperaturen 2,9 grader lavere enn normalen, med en gjennomsnittstemperatur på 9,7 minusgrader. Også dette året ble Oslofjorden islagt.
