Nylig ble det omtalt en rekke klima- og værhendelser under den Lille istid. I tillegg til streng kulde var ekstremeffektene de samme som i dag inklusive hetebølger. Men folk led mer enn i dag under hungersnød, pest, død, kannibalisme, og samfunn ble desimert. Et optimalt klima med konstant CO2 er langt fra så ideelt som IPCC søker å gi inntrykk av.
Klima og tilhørende væreffekter har variert så lenge kloden har eksistert – langt ut over grensene for senere årtiers variasjoner. Nylig ble det publisert en gjennomgang av kjente ekstremeffekter under Maunder minimum i årene 1645-1715, den kaldeste delen av Lille istid (ca. 1500-1850). I 86 av 88 bøker som omhandlet perioden, omtales de kaldere tider og tilhørende elendighet. Bøker av Ole Humlum «Det forunderlige klimaet» og Eva Marie Brekkestø «Vårt alltid skiftende klima» og mange flere er samstemte i sin omtale av skiftende og ofte vanskelige tider med, kulde, flom, tørke, stormer, sult og annen elendighet – inklusive hetebølger.
Forholdene var enda verre enn under Dalton minimum (1790-1830) godt kjent fra Napoleons felttog, Terje Vigen, samt russiske arméers transport over et islagt sørlige del av Botniske viken.
Den svenske armé ble under 30-årskrigen (1618-1648) transportert over isen i Østersjøen til Polen/Tyskland. Karl X Gustavs overraskende armétransport over et islagt Store- og Lillebelt 30 januar−15 februar 1658 førte til freden i Roskilde.
I Skottland dukket eskimoer opp fordi isen lå langt til havs fra Grønland og Island. Silda forsvant fra Norge til engelske farvann. Store deler av Nordsjøen var islagt om vinteren og Cornwall kunne ha sterk tele og 1 m snø. Themsen var vinterstid 1684 gjort om til markedsplass på isen. Isbreene vokste markant frem i store deler av verden. Man trenger ikke avanserte målinger og statistiske metoder for å forstå at det var kaldt i forhold til f.eks. Middelalderens, Romertidens og Bronsealderens varmeperioder.
En gjennomgang av mange av de kjøligste klima- og værtilstander under Maunder minimum er publisert på klimanettstedet WUWT. Hjerteskjærende lidelser for berørte samfunn er så omfattende og mange at de må leses i den lenkede artikkel, eller i kildematerialet. Men noen klipp kan siteres.
1640- og 1650-årene ga dårlige avlinger, ledet til hungersnød og rundt 250 000 mennesker døde i England, Skottland og Wales (7 %). Irlands befolkning ble redusert med 20 %. Kanadiske Rockey Mountains gjennomlevde en streng, langvarig tørke mellom 1641 og 1653.
Mellom 1643 og 1671 hadde Indonesia den lengste tørken i løpet av de siste fire århundre med de mest intense perioder mellom 1659 og 1664. Året 1675, et år uten sommer, er det kaldeste i Nord-Amerika gjennom de siste seks hundre år.
Vinteren 1696-97 var ekstremt streng. Masse snø hindret at de døde kunne begraves før våren kom, og da ble det i massegraver. Kannibalisme ble rapportert i Estland. I Finland ble folk rammet av hungersnød, død og epidemier i 1697. Sultkatastrofen var så fryktelig at den ledet til kannibalisme bl.a. i Østerbotten. I nordre Karelen ble varehus plyndret, og det var så mange begravelser at kirkeklokken sprakk. Gjennom hungerskatastrofen døde i årene 1694, 1695 og 1696, 500 000 mennesker. Skottland mistet mellom 5 og 15 % av sin befolkning, i høylandet opp til 1/3 i løpet av 7 år.
I 1645 slo en kraftig storm til i Shanghai, Kina. Bølgene brøt dikene, spredde saltvann over markene og ødela avlingene. I 1645 regnet det kraftigere på Kreta enn noen gang registrert på 1900-tallet. Avlingene og bygninger ble ødelagt. I september falt regnet nærmest kontinuerlig over Sicilia og ødela vinteravlingen og reduserte dramatisk sommerens innhøsting.
I 1646 forårsaket en kraftig storm oversvømmelse i Holland og Danmark. 110 000 mennesker druknet. I Ukraina var det flom som gjorde det umulig for kosakkene i sørlige deler av Dnjepr å brødfø seg selv. I 1646 ødela en gresshoppesverm avlinger i Moldovia. Intet blad, intet høy, ingen avling fantes, intet var tilbake.
Sommeren 1701 i Frankrike var meget spesiell med sin langvarige hetebølge, likeså i Italia og England. I kontrast var vinteren, januar 1709 spesielt kald, -11 C ved Middelhavet, den kaldeste siste 500 år. 600 000 mennesker døde i Frankrike.
For Norges del kan vi føye til vårflommen Storofsen som langt overgår andre flommer i størrelse og skadeomfang i Norge.
Hva kan vi lære
- Ekstremvær er ikke forbeholdt oppvarming. Et stort spenn av ekstremværhendelser, samme typer omtalt i dagens varmeperiode, skjedde av naturlige årsaker og tilsynelatende i større omfang under den Lille istid. Hetebølger finnes også i kalde perioder uten CO2-endringer.
- Den Lille istid hadde ifølge IPCC konstante CO2-forhold uten menneskeskapte klimabidrag. Alle variasjonene hadde naturlig årsak uten innflytelse av CO2-endringer som markedsføres av IPCC som dagens kontrollknapp for klima. Den hypotesen er ‘fake’.
- IPCC har ingen konsistente forklaringer på den Lille istids mange kraftige regionale/kontinentale variasjoner over kloden. Beregningsmodellene feiler grovt.
- Fra tidligere (isotoper generert i atmosfæren ved solstormer) vet vi at solen var spesielt lite aktiv under den Lille istid. Nå har den vært spesielt aktiv.
Konklusjon
Den kaldeste delen av Lille istid (Maunder minimum) avstedkom, utenfor tropisk sektor, et skred av tørke, flom, stormer med hungersnød, død og elendighet for mange samfunn – de samme ekstremhendelser som i dag, men kraftigere.
Det er Bjørn Lomborgs teori at man må tilpasse seg klimaendringene, for å oppnå et effektivt vern mot ekstremhendelser. CO2-økning er et blindspor.
