Om lag 300.000 svensker anslås å ha mistet luktesansen etter å ha hatt covid-19. Hundrevis av pasienter står i kø for å få hjelp.

Sverige har to mottak for lukt- og smaksforstyrrelser, det ene på Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset i Huddinge, det andre i Lund. Mens det første åpnet i september, har mottaket i Lund eksistert i flere år. Under hele coronapandemien har pågangen vært stor.

– Vi får pasienter fra hele Sverige. Jeg får brev hjem til meg og blir kontaktet fra alle hold, sier Charlotte Cervin-Hoberg, som er biomedisinsk analytiker innen øre-nese-hals.

Infeksjoner, hodeskader og nevrologiske sykdommer kan også påvirke luktesansen, men de fleste som søker hjelp nå, er covid-pasienter.

Covid-19 kan både føre til tap av luktesans og forvrengt luktesans. Svenske Eva Höglund forteller at alt utenom vaniljeis smaker og lukter som sigarettsneiper eller råttent kjøtt.

– Jeg ser på jordbær, men det lukter så ille at jeg nesten kaster opp, sier Höglund, som fikk covid-19 i april 2020.
